bucket filling school

Bucket Filling:
New Town Elementary has started an exciting school-wide program this year based on a book called Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The premise of the book is that each person has an invisible bucket, which holds all of their good thoughts and feelings. As we go through our day, we can be “bucket fillers” each time we treat someone with kindness and respect. We believe we have a responsibility to model this behavior for the children and teach them how to carry this out in their daily lives and interactions with teachers, fellow students, and those in their community. We believe that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact!

Each day, the students can earn bucket filler tickets for showing respect, exhibiting self-control, following directions, completing assignments, resolving conflicts peacefully, and showing kindness. Each week, the teachers will calculate the number of bucket filler tickets their class has earned and report their class number. We will have a school-wide contest to see which class earned the most tickets. We hope to be able to reward the class that has the most bucket filler tickets each week with small prizes in order to motivate and encourage students to show their good character.

Terrific Kids:
Every month, one student from each classroom is nominated from their classroom to be the Terrific Kid for the month. These students have exhibited well-rounded character which we refer to as New Town "P.R.I.D.E." (Positive Attitude, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Enthusiasm).

Each month's Terrific Kids are recognized in a special ceremony and also get the opportunity to wear a Terrific Kids badge for the month.
