The New Town Elementary School Library Media Center is a state of the art center that is ready to provide students with the necessary information literacy skills for the 21st century.  The center includes the ability to house over 12,000 books, videos and other print and non-print materials, TV Studio, twelve networked computers, reading area, and a learning area.

The mission of the New Town Elementary Library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information by providing access to quality and appropriate materials in all media formats; by providing instruction that will foster competencies and interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; and collaborating with educators to design learning activities that meet the needs of the students and provide them with active learning.[1]

The Library Media Center uses the Follett Circulation Plus system for circulation and it’s online catalog.  All the computers in the school have the ability to use the online public access catalog (OPAC).

The primary focus of the library media center is to develop students into lifelong independent learners.  This is done through providing them with information literacy skills.  These skills are based on national, and state standards for information literacy.

Specific pages have been developed to help students, teachers and parents.  We hope that these pages will help you in your ongoing quest of learning.

To contact the Library Media Center you may call (410) 887-1550.
