Health Services The school nurse provides first aid services, health counseling, health screening and health education. In addition, the nurse assists in maintaining a healthy school environment and providing needed services to students with special needs. The primary goal of the school nurse is to support the educational program by assisting to improve the health status of students and staff. Health and learning go hand and hand.The health suite is open from 9:05 AM - 12:20 PM and from 1:00 PM - 4:05 PM. The health suite is staffed by a full time nurse and a part time health assistant.
Healthy School Promotion Developing health lifestyle habits at a young age will help reduce illness, prolong life, and help children to develop into adults that have positive attitudes about their control over the level of wellness. With this goal in mind the school nurse and health assistant have developed and coordinate monthly theme activities to promote healthy lifestyle adoption. Some of the monthly themes include nutrition, fire safety, poison prevention, bike safety, hand washing and infection prevention, as well as dental health and exercise. This program includes a newsletter insert to parents, bulletin boards and posters promoting healthy habits displayed throughout the school, classroom and lesson suggestions to teachers. In the future, the school nurse hopes to involve students to produce morning announcements, and video produced skits that will be aired school wide during morning announcements.
